The Clarity in the Chaos:
Why Your Messy Brain* Might Be the Smartest in the Room
Amelia Stewart
The Clarity in the Chaos: Why Your Messy Brain* Might Be the Smartest System in the Room invites the audience to reframe distraction, inconsistency, and overwhelm as intelligent responses rather than failures to overcome.
Drawing from ecological psychology, this talk shows how clarity doesn’t come from forcing focus or rigid plans — it comes from noticing what’s already happening.
By exploring the relationships between attention, intention, and the opportunities for action in our environment (affordances), we discover that our so-called chaos is often self-organisation in disguise.
After this presentation, attendees are invited to pause and attune — not fix or plan harder. The suggested action is to use the “Roll for Perception” or journaling prompts shared in the session to:
- Notice what’s loud right now (what’s pulling your attention).
- Reconnect with what you intended to do (your actual desire or aim).
- Identify what’s possible from here — even if it’s a tiny step.
This small practice helps attendees spot the affordances already in their environment and make meaningful progress without forcing themselves to be someone they’re not.
